Kidsafe Tasmania Celebrates National Families Week: Supporting Families to Keep Kids Safe

ยท

Kidsafe Tasmania is proud to celebrate National Families Week (12โ€“19 May 2025), a time to reflect on the vital role families play in building safe, supportive, and connected communities.

Each year, thousands of Australian children are injured in preventable incidents, at home, on the road, and during play. As Tasmania’s leading organisation dedicated to preventing unintentional injury in children, Kidsafe Tasmania works together with families to create safer environments for kids to grow, play and thrive.

โ€œWe know that unintentional injuries are one of the leading causes of death and hospitalisation in young children, but they are also largely preventable,โ€ said Kidsafe Tasmania CEO Jenny Branch-Allen, spokesperson for Kidsafe Tasmania. โ€œOur mission is to empower families with the knowledge and tools they need to prevent these tragedies.โ€

Throughout the year, Kidsafe Tasmania supports families through:

ยท Free education sessions on child car restraints, home safety, and safe play.

ยท Practical training for parents, carers and stakeholders on how to correctly install and adjust car seats.

ยท Resources and safety advice for families from all backgrounds, including those in priority populations.

ยท Community outreach and partnerships, bringing safety information to where families live, learn, and play.

National Families Week reminds everyone that families, in all their forms, are the foundation of our society. It is a time to celebrate their strength, resilience, and love.

โ€œAt the heart of every safety campaign and program we run is a family, parents, grandparents, carers, doing their best to protect their children,โ€ said Jenny Branch-Allen. โ€œWe celebrate them this week, and every week, for the critical role they play in keeping kids safe.โ€
