Nicotine is a poison that can be dangerous for children and even cause death.
Nicotine can be found in:
- Tobacco (cigarettes, cigarette butts, chewing tobacco)
- E-cigarettes (vapes, vape liquid refills)
- Nicotine Replacement Therapies (gum, lozenges, sprays, mist, patches, inhalers)
First aid:
Call the 24 hour Poisons Information centre immediately on 13 11 26 if a child has put nicotine in their mouth or on their skin.

If the child has collapsed or is not breathing, call 000.
