National Road Safety Week runs from 11 to 18 May 2025, shining a spotlight on actions every road user can take to prevent tragedy on our road. To mark the week, Kidsafe Tasmania will hold a free child-restraint safety-check sessions at Lady Gowrie offering hands-on advice and installations to ensure every young passenger is properly secured. Ongoing, we offer free checks at playgroups, childcare centre, family & Child centres and places that support families and their children.
Tasmaniaโs road toll for 2025 has already reached 21 fatalities and 106 serious injuries, with April recording the deadliest month since July 2009. Kidsafe Tasmaniaโs program of over 200 safety checks so far this year has uncovered critical installation errors such as misuse of anchor points and premature seat-rotation that can turn routine trips into life-threatening situations.
โEvery second counts when a childโs safety is at stake,โ said Jenny Branch-Allen, Chief Executive Officer of Kidsafe Tasmania. โOur session at Lady Gowrie will give parents and carers the confidence and know-how to fit restraints correct and to spot hidden hazards before they lead to injury.โ
